Is your SmartPhone a distraction while doing your work, even if it's switched off? Here's what needs to be done.

Okay, So I was studying and in no time this happened and hours went by leaving me with an extreme sense of guilt at night.

Do you guys relate to this too?

Hey Guys.Welcome back to my this week's blog. For those of you who don't know me, I am Sanpreet Kaur, Final Year MBBS Student in Dayanand Medical College, Ludhiana.

Development of technology is a boon for the human race. From Mobile Phones to Air Conditioners. Everything is made out of technology. But what is the other side to this? Maybe Distraction or Destruction?

Every student must have experienced their Mobile Phones as a big Distraction especially that so called "SOCIAL MEDIA" thing , for which they must have devised various strategies to overcome the distraction but have probably failed.

Researches have shown that what drugs do to the brain is exact similar to what mobile phones and social media can do to the brain. It is the root cause of procrastination.

I have compiled a list of various foolproof techniques by which you can easily beat this distraction and boost your productivity levels.

Let's get started.

1. Make a To Do List
I cannot emphasise on this enough.

  • The first thing you should do before starting you day is MAKE A TO DO LIST which will include everything you need to do for the entire day along with the time period allotted to each one task.
  • Research has shown that making a To Do List makes your mind subconsciously aware about the things it has to do and optimises the productivity.
I will be making a complete blog article on how to be make an efficient To Do List which is easy to plan and execute.

2.Silent your phone and Silent all the Notifications

  • That notification ring from WhatsApp groups or Instagram or Facebook are the major source of distraction and are a major obstacle to your focus journey.
  • Hit that silent button and avoid that distraction to boost productivity levels tremendously.

3.Keep your phone out of sight

  • Keeping the phone on your study table is the biggest mistake you can ever do.
  • Our mind is a tricky one, once you keep your phone in your sight, it will continuously propel you to check that notification or just unlock and lock the phone for no reason, stealing your time.
DON'T GET TRAPPED!
  • Keep your phone at a far off site where you don't have that easy access to your phone.
  • You can even put it in your almirah or drawer or anywhere like that.

Work and Mobile Phone on the Sam stable is not a Good Option

4.Give yourself Rewards

  • Never underestimate the rewards. I repeat, NEVER.
  • Researches have shown that once we are over-enthusiastic we tend to underestimate the Reward thing.
  • Once in our clinical rotation, our Psychiatry HOD sir told us about the importance of rewards in productivity and I have never looked back since.
  • Rewards can be anything like :

Listening to your favourite music

Eating that snack

Having a walk

Talking to your family

Watching your favourite video

REMEMBER! REWARD DOESN'T MEAN  BINGE WATCHING NETFLIX !

5.Give it to your Parents and tell them not to give you back

Disclaimer: This is the extreme tip you can use once you have failed the above methods.Lol!

  • If you still cannot resist looking at your phone or checking it again and again. Give it to your parents and ask them not to give it back to you until you have competed your planned task.
THIS METHOD IS 100% EFFECTIVE WITH 0% FAILURE RATES.

6.Use Various Apps to stay focussed until your work is complete

With development of technology, various apps have been developed to help you stay focused and complete the desired task without any distraction from your phone.
I will be coming up with a separate blog post for all the apps and techniques to prevent distraction while doing your work.
But for now I would love to name a few of my favourite apps that I use

  • Forest app- For time management
  • Microsoft To Do- To make a To Do list and keep it on home screen so that whenever I unlock my phone I look into what ToDo List things I have to complete
  • Day One- For writing a journal to write away all the random thoughts I have while doing my work
  • Notion
  • Inbuilt Notes App in my Phone

Bonus tip: If you are a complete nerd, you can even put your To Do List as the Lock screen of your phone so that whenever you pick up your phone, you are reminded of the work you have on your list.

That's all in brief about various strategies and fool proof techniques you can use to prevent distractions and boost your productivity levels and complete that desired work you have been lingering for so long.
